Conductor Alan Kelly
Alan became a member of the band in 1990 playing trumpet. After initial studies with Pat McNally he attended the Dublin College of Music where he took trumpet lessons with Thomas Barry gaining further experience with many bands and orchestras including Dublin Concert Band, the DIT Wind Ensemble, Fine Arts Brass and London Brass.
He graduated with an Honours Degree in Music from NUI Maynooth in 1997 and immediately secured a teaching position at the DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama where
he lectured for 5 years. Alan now teaches Music in Kylemore College in Dublin.
Since 1995 he has been actively involved with youth music organisations from teaching Brass with the Irish Traditional Youth Band to conducting and teaching positions with the Mullhuddart Community Youth Band, the Phoenix Youth Band, Allianz, St Patrick's College Cavan and Kylemore College.
He has taken conducting master classes with Takao Nakamura, Frederick Fennell and Dr. Jeffery Renshaw and has conducted the Irish Variety Ensemble since 2003.
